Social Media Policy

 

The City’s website and social media accounts are limited public forums. We welcome public comments but expect conversations to follow the conventions of polite public discourse appropriate to a limited public forum. Therefore, we reserve the right to hide or obscure comments that:

•         Contain vulgar language;

•         Contain personal attacks of any kind;

•         Contain offensive or racist terms that target protected classes;

•         Are off-topic;

•         Promote commercial websites or services;

•         Contain pornographic or obscene materials;

•         Or that disclose the personal information of third parties.

 

The City of Sweetwater reserves the right, with or without notice, to block access to its social media pages to any user who consistently violates the policy guidelines. Comments that threaten or imply attacks to the personal safety of individuals may be referred to appropriate law enforcement agencies.

Under Florida law, all content on any of the City's social media accounts are subject to the public records law, Chapter 119, Florida Statutes. By becoming a fan of this page, posting comments or messaging this page, your information will be a matter of public record. The City of Sweetwater is required to retain this information in accordance with the State of Florida retention schedule. This may include information on your own social media accounts.
