Major John Wrves is an accomplished police executive with over 17 years of sworn law enforcement experience. He began his career as a public servant in 2003 as a Correctional Officer for the Florida Department of Corrections.
In 2007 he transitioned over to the City of Sweetwater Police Department where he began to fulfill his childhood dream of becoming a police officer. Throughout his tenure, Major Wrves’ professionalism, hard work, and dedication have helped him make his way up the ranks from Police Officer, Detective, Police Corporal, Police Sergeant, Police Lieutenant, to Major of Police.
Major Wrves holds many certifications as a Law Enforcement Professional and is currently a certified Firearms, General techniques, and Taser instructor.
As a Police Lieutenant, he was selected as the accreditation manager for the Police Department. Major Wrves under the direction of Chief Placido Diaz and with the complete support of all officers and civilian staff, helped the Sweetwater Police Department obtain their Certificate of Accreditation through the Commission for Florida Law Enforcement Accreditation on November 1, 2017. This was the first time attaining accreditation since the Sweetwater
Police Departments; inception in 1941. Accomplishing this task modernized the department as well as raised its standards. These standards reflect the best practices in Law Enforcement agencies nationwide.
In 2018 he was promoted to his current rank, Major of Police. Major Wrves is tasked with overseeing all aspects of the Operation Division which consists of Accreditation, Court Services, Fleet & Property, General Investigations, K-9, Motors, Records, Training Unit, and Uniform patrol.
In his first year as Major, he attended & graduated from the University of Louisville’s Southern Police Institute 81st Command Officers Development Course. In 2019 he enrolled in the FBI-LEEDA Trilogy course which consisted of Supervisory, Command, & Executive leadership training becoming a Trilogy graduate and recipient in 2020. Major Wrves graduated from Union Institute & University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice Management. He is presently working on attaining his Master’s Degree.
Major Wrves is an active member of the Florida Police Chiefs Association, Miami-Dade County Association of Chiefs of Police, FBI-LEEDA, and International Association of Chiefs of Police.
