City of Sweetwater Reopening
of retail and commercial establishments (Phase 1)

(Sweetwater) – On Monday, May 18, Mayor Orlando Lopez signed Executive Order Number 9 that allows retail and commercial establishments to reopen following strict guidelines to ensure the health and safety of all residents. The City is abiding by the Miami-Dade County “New Normal Guide for Residents and Commercial Establishments.” During the reopening process, our main responsibility is to make sure that all businesses are following social distancing and health risk requirements. All businesses and residents must follow guidelines defined by Miami-Dade County Emergency Order 23-20, our City’s Emergency Order Number 9, and the Center for Disease Control (CDC).

The City of Sweetwater Police Department and the Code Compliance Department will be visiting businesses in our City to ensure compliance with all guidelines. Any business that violates the emergency order set forth by the City may be punished by a fine of not more than $500.00 or by imprisonment in the county jail for a period not exceeding 60 days or by both such fine and imprisonment.

Businesses that may reopen include retail establishments (including small business), personal grooming stores, arts, and culture (including non-profit museums and public gardens), manufacturing, office space and shopping centers, warehousing/trade, and logistics, restaurants.

The following establishments remain closed: bars, banquet halls, movie theaters, concert houses, playhouses, bowling alleys, arcades, gymnasiums, fitness studios, tattoo parlors, massage parlors, pools, hot tubs, hotels, and commercial lodging establishments.

To review the guidelines for each business, please visit the Miami-Dade County website www.miamidade.gov/newnormal.

We will continue to monitor businesses in the City to make sure they open safely and lawfully. If information is subsequent to change, we will keep you updated.
