Commissioner Eduardo Suarez

Commissioner Eduardo M. Suárez has been a resident and property owner of the City of Sweetwater since 1973. He is very proud of being part of this community where his oldest daughter Ana Beatriz came to live when she was two years old. His son Eduardo Enrique and daughter Cristina María were born while he was already living in this beautiful small City in the western suburbs of Miami-Dade County. He has been married to his wife Aida since 1968 and they have five beautiful grandchildren.

He came from Cuba in 1963 and worked in several important industries since then: Talisman Sugar Corporation south of Lake Okeechobee, Aerodex Inc. at the west end of Miami International Airport (MIA), Eastern Airlines at MIA, Beckman Coulter at Hialeah and later at West Kendall. He is the Chairperson of the American Society for Quality (ASQ) Section 1510 which covers Broward, Miami-Dade, and Monroe Counties with over 500 members and Secretary of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) for the Miami Chapter with close to 300 members. Although officially retired, he still does some consulting work in his discipline of expertise.

Commissioner Suárez holds an Associate in Arts Degree from Miami Dade College, a Bachelor of Science Degree in Mechanical Engineering and a Master of Science Degree in Engineering Management both from Florida International University (FIU).

He has served twice in the City of Sweetwater Planning and Zoning Board, the last time he resigned in order to accept a nomination to the Miami-Dade County Planning Advisory Board(PAB). He also resigned from the PAB a little less than a year later in order to accept his current position as City of Sweetwater Commissioner. He was selected by the majority of the elected Commission Members to fill a vacant seat after the elections of May 2015 and he accepted it with the enthusiasm to do the best he could for the betterment of the City. In years past he worked very hard together with the City Administration and Elected Officials to find a solution to the floods in our City which resulted in the successful installation of the pumping system. He also achieved with the help of the Commission a reduction in the garbage collection fees. As a Commissioner now, he strives to make our City a place where everyone can feel proud to be a resident, a property owner, and/or a business owner.
